Summary
There is a wide variety of applications that require a differentiation between land cover and land use data. For example, this is essential in case of environmental monitoring, statistical considerations and reporting obligations (CLC 2019) as well as cultural landscape issues (Retat and Schaffert 2018). In order to meet these requirements, the Working Committee of the Surveying Authorities of the Laender of the Federal Republic of Germany developed a strategy to expand the range of official geobasis data by the components of land cover (LC) and land use (LU). An application-neutral nomenclature of LC and LU was developed, which has both the content and the semantic neutrality to meet different requirements. Furthermore, a migration concept was developed, which is based on expanding the existing range of object types of the Actual Use (AC). As a result the LU can be derived automatically from the object types of the AC. The LC data will be automatically generated based on remote sensing data.
