Summary
The paper presents a new approach of integrated rural development in Saxony-Anhalt. In a pilot phase in 2013 and 2014, Saxony-Anhalt supported ten municipalities to generate an exemplary »Integrated Communal Development Concept«. It should strengthen the linkage between rural and urban development, define strategic objectives and set clear priorities for projects as well as provide a platform for the municipalities that can be used by all departments that support measures in rural areas. By now it becomes apparent that the implementation requires a close intercommunal cooperation and its perpetuation as well as adequate financing options and accompanying evaluation. In 2015 and 2016 all cities and municipalities in Saxony-Anhalt can get a promotion to generate or update a concept.
