Zusammenfassung
Summary
A Baobab population near Al-Ubayyid in North Kordofan, Sudan was first surveyed in 2007 using basic measuring equipment. A comparison of the measured data with current high-resolution satellite data from 2017 shows that the Baobab population has declined. This was the reason to conduct a new survey in the field in 2018 with the aim to determine the changes after more than a decade. The locations of the trees were visually compared with the 2007 population and recorded. The locations of the remaining trees were measured again, mostly with high accuracy. For this purpose, a fixed base station was used in the field. A tree register was created from all available data using a geographical information system.
It could be shown that after more than a decade four new Baobabs were recorded and two dozen trees could not be found anymore. The final tree population amounted to 211 objects. The decline can be explained by anthropogenic causes, among others.
