Zusammenfassung
In der kurzen Geschichte des europäischen Satellitennavigationssystems Galileo ist es bisher zu großen Verzögerungen gekommen. Nach den ursprünglichen Plänen hätte die Vollausbaustufe im Jahr 2008 erreicht werden sollen. Nach heutigem Stand ist mit FOC (Full Operational Capability) für Galileo etwa um das Jahr 2020 zu rechnen. Bereits in den Jahren 1995 bzw. 1996 erreichten die unter militärischer Kontrolle stehenden Systeme GPS (Global Positioning System) der USA und das russische GLONASS (Global Navigation Satellite System) das Stadium der Vollausbaustufe und weitere Länder wie China und möglicherweise Indien entwickeln gegenwärtig global verfügbare Systeme. Daher stellt sich die Frage, ob Galileo einerseits überhaupt noch sinnvoll ist, da ja ausreichend (und in naher Zukunft noch mehr) andere Systeme verfügbar sind, und andererseits, ob noch Marktchancen gegeben sind.
Daher wird der aktuelle Stand der Entwicklungen der globalen Satellitennavigationssysteme beschrieben, die Frage nach der Notwendigkeit von so vielen globalen Systemen beantwortet und eine Abschätzung des Marktes basierend auf dem GNSS Market Report der GSA (European GNSS Agency) gemacht.
Summary
Substantial delays have occurred in the short history of the European Global Navigation Satellite System Galileo. Originally, Galileo FOC (Full Operational Capability) should have been achieved in 2008. Currently, about 2020 is the envisaged date of completion. This delay must be seen in the light of non-European developments. In 1995 and 1996, respectively, the military-operated systems GPS (Global Positioning System) of the US and the Russian GLONASS (Global Navigation Satellite System) achieved FOC. Other countries like China and possibly India are also developing their own systems. Thus, the question arises if Galileo makes sense at all given that sufficient other systems are available and that the number of systems will increase in the near future. In addition to this question it is of interest to estimate the market potential.
The current status of the systems and the respective developments are described. The question for the need of so many systems will be answered and some aspects of the market potential based on the market report of the GSA (European GNSS Agency) will be given.
